Racial Justice

Mission / Vision Statement

We advocate for racial equality & proper racial understanding through education, dialogue, & collective action & collaborate with other faith-based communities to build collective strength & work to address systemic & internalized racism.

Objectives

1. Racial Literacy/Education

  • Provide space for Paoli Presbyterian Church to learn & understand the complexities of racism. Lead the church to investigate, understand, & acknowledge the roots & realities of racial inequalities within our society.

2. Stand up Against Racial Injustice

  • Provide information & leadership for Paoli Presbyterian Church to stand up against all forms of racial injustice & participate in racial reconciliation ministry.

3. Solidarity

  • Declare support & provide Christian ministry for victims of racial injustice.

4. Advocacy

  • Advocate for a more inclusive society (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, & Belonging)

5. Empowerment

  • Support the development & growth of leadership & empowerment among racially marginalized minorities.

6. Relationships

  • Develop & build relationships with other churches that may be racially different from our church.

  • Driving tour of Harriet Tubman’s Underground Railroad Byway in Dorchester County, Maryland
  • Thurgood (Marshall) performance at People Light theater
  • Museum of the American Revolution guided tour and exhibit — Black Founders
  • Civil Rights Bus Tour with The Presbytery of Donegal
  • Unity Concert at Paoli Presbyterian Church
  • Robert Wafula class at PPC on A Biblical Look at Racism
  • Juneteenth celebration in West Chester

Upcoming Events:

  • Lincoln University Gospel Choir Concert
    • Sunday, February 15th at 2:00pm in the Sanctuary
      • The Lincoln University choir, at the invitation of our Racial Justice Task Force, will be presenting hymns & spirituals from the African American tradition of the church. All are welcome & please invite friends!
  • A Day of Recollection for Healing Racism
    • Saturday, February 21st 9:30am-3:00pm
      • Daylesford Abbey, Paoli, PA
